Introducing Vapi Workflows

For builders looking to build voice agents that go beyond simple Q&A, managing the flow of conversation, integrating tools, and handling varied user intents is key.

We've developed a new component in Vapi to give you direct control over these multi-step interactions.

What’s New

Today, we have launched Vapi Workflows. A visual orchestration platform for designing multi-step conversation flows.

You get real control visually and in code, enabling you to:

Switch voices, models, or languages on a per-node basis
Extract variables and pass them across the workflow
Escalate to humans with global jump nodes
Route conversations based on logic or AI conditions
Make live API calls and act on responses

Everything is configurable via API or through our visual builder.

Node Types

Each Workflow is built from modular blocks we call nodes. Every node handles a specific function in your call logic:

Conversation Nodes: The core dialog unit, with custom prompts and config
API Request Nodes: Call external services and fetch data live
Transfer Call Nodes: Move the call to a human or another agent
Tool Nodes: Trigger any tool you’ve set up in your Vapi account
End Call Nodes: Wrap up calls with a closing message

Use these together to create complex, adaptive flows without the overhead of long prompts or brittle logic.

Built for Handoff

Workflows bridge the gap between product and engineering. Product teams can map out flows visually like how the conversation should go, where decision points sit, and what happens next. Developers can then hook those flows into real logic using our API.

The flow is visible, editable, and fully testable from day one.
