Problem with BYO SIP

Hi all, we run into issues with our BYO SIP, i have tested 2 different scenarios and both stop working after a few hours of days. First i created an extention inside our Asterisk pbx and let it register, this worked for a few weeks but since last week it stops registering after a few hours and the agent goes offline. I decided to go with a SIP trunk as i expected this to be more robust, it registered and worked for 2 days and then stops registering as well. I have no idea why but it feels like the BYO SIP is broken since last week. Anyone an idea. I have set Options ping to be enabled, monitoring the SIP trunk itself it does register every 5 minutes as long as it works but then it suddenly stops to renew the registration. Hope anyone can help as this makes the whole assistant unusable for now.

I’ve worked on a few setups where BYO SIP randomly drops registration after a few hours/days, and it often comes down to NAT/session timers, firewall handling, or registration interval mismatches between the PBX and provider. Enabling OPTIONS ping is a good step, but sometimes the PBX isn’t refreshing before the session expires, or the upstream is blocking/closing the connection after inactivity.

Quick question: have you tried adjusting the qualify interval or lowering the registration expiry to force more frequent re-registers? That usually helps keep the trunk alive. @Robin Damen

I did not, can u maybe tell me how to set the qualify interval, i don’t see this on the gui.

Anyone who can help me with this, i filed a support ticket as well but after a few days still no answer, not really comfortable for a business service ;-)…. I might expect a little bit quicker support on this kind of issues.

@Robin Damen Congratulations, you found an Asterisk developer in the crowd

First of all, are you using Asterisk vanilla? or are you using FreePBX? The question stems from the fact that when using FreePBX it takes various "opinions" as to how things are supposed to work. Also, are you working with chan_sip or chan_pjsip? they have some changes between them, which make the integration you indicated above slightly tricky from time to time.

We are working with pbxware from bicomsystems, so not shure what is below it. I tested a remote extention and did the registration but as it started to fail we moved towards a sip trunk directly from our voip partner, but that one has the same issues

Ahhhhh...... PBXWare - I know that system, specifically because of the reasons you indicated with connecting to VAPI

PBXWare takes various "opinions" as to how SIP Trunk and SIP Phones work - so when working with an AI Voice system, without an SBC in the middle - you end up with "quirks"

Ah ok, but the siptrunk i tried is not based on pbxware, it’s from dstny our dutch carrier

So that’s why i believe it’s strange, it worked for a few weeks and suddenly stopped, and it’s giving the same behavior on both platforms. Registration is kept for a day or 2 and then dies.
