Transcription Portuguese

I have an assistant that works just fine in english. When I switch to Brazilian Portguese (Transcription Gladia, TTS 11Labs) the assistant can't seem to hear me, it's not transcribing and I get the following error message: [WARN] Endpointing falling back to heuristic. Language br is not supported by LiveKit model. - Call ID: 8ea9174d-a920-4827-81ae-b73b89d30fe3 - Timestamp: 28/05/2025 09:04:55:683

It looks like the issue is due to LiveKit not supporting Brazilian Portuguese ("br") for endpointing. The documentation suggests using the "Vapi" endpointing method for non-English languages. Could you confirm which language code you are using for Brazilian Portuguese in your configuration (e.g., "br" or "pt-BR")? This will help ensure compatibility with Gladia and the endpointing model. For reference, you may want to set the smart endpointing plan to "Vapi" for better support with Portuguese conversations.

Using "br"

To help resolve your issue, could you try updating your language code from "br" to "pt-BR" and set the smart endpointing plan to "Vapi" instead of "LiveKit"? This may improve compatibility with Gladia and Brazilian Portuguese transcription. Please let me know if this change resolves the problem or if you encounter any new errors. Thank you for confirming the changes. Could you please share the exact language code and full transcriber configuration you are currently using for Brazilian Portuguese? This will help identify if there are any subtle misconfigurations. Sources: - Speech configuration documentation - Gladia transcriber documentation

Thank you for sharing your current configuration. To help narrow down the issue, could you please confirm exactly what value you are setting for the language code in your Gladia transcriber configuration—are you using "pt" or "pt-BR"? This detail will help determine if the language code is the source of the problem. If possible, please copy-paste the relevant part of your configuration for the language code only. I am using "Pt" there is no "pt-BR" in Vapi settings under "Transcriber"

Thank you for clarifying that only "pt" is available in the Vapi settings for Gladia. When you use "pt" as the language code, do you receive any partial transcriptions or error messages, or is there simply no transcription output at all? This will help determine if the issue is with the language code or another part of the configuration. Thank you for confirming that there is no transcription output when using "pt" as the language code with Gladia. Could you please try switching the transcriber provider to another option (such as Google or Deepgram) with the same "pt" language code and let me know if you receive any transcription output? This will help determine if the issue is specific to Gladia or related to the language code/configuration in general. If you need instructions on how to change the transcriber provider, let me know! Google worked. Can't I use gladia?

Currently, Gladia does not appear to support Brazilian Portuguese ("pt-BR") transcription in Vapi—only the generic "pt" option is available, and it produces no output in your tests. As a workaround, I recommend continuing to use the Google transcriber with the "pt" language code, since it successfully provides transcription for Brazilian Portuguese. If you need to switch back to Gladia in the future, keep an eye on the Gladia transcriber documentation for updates on language support.
